May 9--Just five years after Dell Computer Corp. moved its headquarters to Round Rock, the company is moving it back to Austin -- sort of.
The company has leased 80,000 square feet in the Las Cimas office complex, off Loop 360 between Austin and West Lake Hills, for its world headquarters. While the building is just outside Austin city limits, the city has authority over development there.
About 100 of the company's senior executives -- including Chairman Michael Dell and his top advisers -- are expected to go to work at the building by the end of the year. Along with the company's headquarters, the offices will be home to Dell's new venture-capital subsidiary and other operations.
Dell officials said there were no immediate plans to move any of the company's other operations from Round Rock, and that the region's biggest private employer doesn't play favorites between the two cities. …
