May 9--The desire for a grander bridge for Grande Dunes has led to a four-month delay in the connector's opening. The private bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway won't open until March 1 because Grande Dunes' developer, Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., wanted to fine-tune the original design.
After weeks of review, the only changes made were aesthetic, from the type of handrails to the size of the turrets. The bridge still will be two lanes, 400 feet long and have sidewalks on both sides. The design changes won't affect the $5 million price tag.
