New Orleans lies approximately 90 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeast Louisiana. It is a major transportation hub and a leading seaport of the United States as well as a major tourist and convention center destination. New Orleans is also a higher education center with eight colleges and universities with enrollments of over 57,000 students. It also has two medical and law schools.
