IN the winter of 1866 the church bells rang in Stratford-upon-
Avon, Wellesbourne, Leamington and Warwick to celebrate the marriage of Sir Charles Mordaunt of Walton Hall to the beautiful Harriett Moncreiffe.
After a honeymoon in Scotland Sir Charles brought his bride home in triumph.
Local villages were decked out with floral arches, the 7th Troop of Horse of the Warwickshire Yeomanry formed a guard of honour and Sunday school children in red cloaks scattered flowers in the path of the happy couple.
