DENVER - It's spelled "Roy." But in his native Quebec, it's pronounced "Wah," which means king in the French that rules the province.
The name is appropriate because for the past 15 years, Patrick Roy has been the king of NHL goalies. Roy's 444 victories are three short of the late Terry Sawchuck's all-time record. His 120 playoff victories and 15 postseason shutouts - both achieved in the Colorado Avalanche's 2-0 blanking of the defending champion Dallas Stars in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals Friday night - are the goal standard. And no active goalie has more Stanley Cups than Roy's three.
