IT had been a long day's filming Where Eagles Dare and Richard Burton wanted a drink - badly. So, accompanied by Clint Eastwood, he made straight for his hotel bar - neither bothering to change from the Nazi uniforms they wore for much of the movie.
Burton had downed a couple of large vodkas in something of a hurry when an American suddenly appeared. He was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred - the man was clearly very drunk.
