The Museum of the City of New York was established in 1923 by a group of citizens concerned with preserving the history of a city that has never ceased changing since it was settled in the seventeenth century. As a result, the museum's collections range from masterpieces to the flotsam of domestic and civic life over the last four centuries, providing a rich look at the city's complex history.
