For many years, Barb Romack has been helping students understand what goes on at Fermilab in Batavia.
This year, the Kaneland North Elementary School teacher's work was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award by the Fermilab Lederman Science Center.
"It was a big surprise. I'm very honored they chose me," said Romack, who teaches fourth grade.
The award is part of a national program from the Association of Science and Technology Centers. It allows each member museum or science center to name a teacher of the year, said Marge Bardeen, manager of the education office at Fermilab.
