JACKDAWS CASTLE enters a new era today, when Alan King moves out of the renowned Cotswolds training yard and Richard Phillips takes his place, writes Graham Dench.

King, who was handed the reins by owner Colin Smith on a short-term basis when David Nicholson retired in December, has taken out a lease on Barbury Castle Stables, near Marlborough, which were occupied by the late Mikie Heaton-Ellis and, more recently, by his former assistant Clive Cox.
