Reporter Tom Lyden of KMSP-TV, Channel 9, was charged Tuesday with stealing a videotape of dogfighting from the car of a professional boxer who is accused of staging illegal dogfights.
Lyden, 34, of Minneapolis, was charged with three misdemeanors - theft, temporary theft and motor-vehicle tampering - for taking the tape from a car near Princeton, Minn., last month.
Lyden, who has defended the action as "aggressive reporting," took the tape April 27 from a car parked on a property where 13 pit bull dogs had been seized.
He said he took the tape, according to the charges, because he "wanted to see what was on it." There was no one home, he said. ...
