Give people a choice between a bunch of desserts, and if one of them is chocolate cake chances are it's going to get a big chunk of the votes. Chocolate cake, plain and simple, is an easy sell.

But there's chocolate cake, and then there's CHOCOLATE CAKE! When you gussy up chocolate cake - especially if the gussying up involves more chocolate, most people would agree that you have taken a good thing and made it a swell thing.

The people who don't agree probably don't much care for chocolate or even (gasp!) dislike it. Nothing you do to a chocolate cake is going to please them very much anyway, so if they are not present, or if you can slip them vanilla ...
