As sheriff's deputies led a 28-year-old convicted burglar from the Waseca County courthouse to a state prison Friday morning, many in this southern Minnesota town wondered if he might not be involved in a far more serious crime:
The April 1999 killing of Waseca schoolgirl Cally Jo Larson.
Waseca Police Chief Jim Staloch declined to comment Friday on TV reports that investigators consider the man to be a suspect in the killing of the 12-year-old girl, who was found dead in her mother's home after returning from school. She had been sexually assaulted, stabbed and hanged.
But Staloch also wouldn't deny that the man may be involved.
