John Anderson's dream was coming true. Which, of course, terrified him.
He was 26 in the summer of 1981, about to be named head baseball coach at the University of Minnesota. He was becoming the youngest coach in that sport in the history of the Big Ten Conference.
"I got the job because I was available and cheap," Anderson said. "Of course, I was young and scared to death. There was this great tradition, and I didn't want to be responsible someday for screwing it up."
