Tuition at the University of Minnesota will rise about 5.5 percent next year under a plan University President Mark Yudof presented Thursday to the Board of Regents.

If the regents OK the plan next month, the increase will cost full-time, undergraduate students about $230 more across the year. The average annual tuition is now $4,200. For those students making minimum wage, $5.15 an hour, the price increase may mean having to work an additional 45 hours across the year to fill the gap.
