The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) voted Tuesday to delay for five months a decision on whether to approve the $48.5 billion acquisition of local telephone company U S West by long-distance firm Qwest Communications International.
Citing a lack of information from Denver-based U S West, which provides most telephone service in the Twin Cities, the PUC voted 3 to 2 to refer the case to an administrative law judge, who will make recommendations to the PUC. That probably will delay a PUC vote until August.
