As an editor, Harwood Schaffer said, he tried not to use his southern Minnesota weekly newspaper as a "bully pulpit" to promote his views.
After all, he had two other pulpits - in the two churches he served as pastor.
Schaffer spent nine years as both editor/owner of the West Martin Weekly News in Sherburn, Minn., and as pastor of First United Church of Christ in Sherburn and St. John's United Church of Christ in nearby Ceylon.
