Wolves and snow geese would seem to have little in common. Yet both are the object of increasing derision because of their rising population.
Wolves, for example, are multiplying in Minnesota at better than a 4 percent annual clip. And snow goose numbers have jumped so exponentially in recent years that their fragile tundra nesting grounds are in danger of perhaps permanent destruction.
The Legislature this session is exploring ways to curb the state's wolves. And again this spring, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has authorized a special no-holds-barred spring snow goose hunt in many states, including Minnesota.
