John McCain had 10 minutes to bond with a roomful of high school and college students at a gathering in Manchester, N.H., last month. So he tried a little name-dropping.
"Jesse Ventura and I have a lot in common," he informed them. "I even wear a feather boa around the U.S. Senate on occasion."
The boa part is still pretty hard to believe. But in the five weeks since he likened himself to Minnesota's governor, McCain has shown that there was sincerity in the comparison.
What national media are calling the McCain phenomenon is more than vaguely reminiscent of what Minnesota journalists dubbed the Ventura phenomenon 15 months ago. The two politicians are nowhere ...
