VARIOUS ARTISTS, "The Sopranos" (Epic)
Just as it cannily translates the vibrant Italian-American milieu of Martin Scorsese's films to the small screen, HBO's gangster series "The Sopranos" is also smart about its use of music. There's stuff you'd expect: New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt (who has a role in the series) and the techno-ish instrumental theme by A3. And, of course, a little Frank Sinatra. Bob Dylan's gospel-inspired "Gotta Serve Somebody" acquires an extra layer of meaning in this context, while bluesman R.L.
