At a ceremony today at the Monroe Welcome Center, Monroe, Michigan, a Buckeye tree was planted and a plaque rededicated symbolizing the long-standing friendship between the states of Michigan and Ohio. The eight-foot-tall Buckeye Tree was donated courtesy of the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association.
The story of the friendship Buckeye Tree started on a chilly February day nearly 60 years ago -- February 12, 1941 -- when the tree was planted and dedicated with a plaque at Michigan's Monroe Welcome Center, then located on U.S. 24 (Telegraph Road).
