Two prosecutors from the Twin Cities helped lead a White House pep rally Tuesday for passage of a proposed federal hate crimes statute that has stalled in Congress.
"Federal support and cooperation is important in our local efforts to combat hate crimes," said Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar, who introduced President Clinton at the East Room event.
Klobuchar and U.S. Attorney Todd Jones of the Minneapolis office were held up as examples of local-federal cooperation, a link that the legislation would encourage as a way to take more aggressive action against hate crimes.
