The Turkey Track Club, whose hunters each April fan out in the Black Hills, attracts significantly more interest today than it did in 1974, its first year of operation.

Still, it remains a low-key outfit whose headquarters is a mom-and-pop-style motel.

But what the club lacks in fancy accommodations, it makes up for in tradition, enthusiasm and guide quality.

This is an operation run by turkey hunters for turkey hunters - particularly those who wish to pursue the Merriam's turkey, a boisterous subspecies whose springtime toms love to gobble.
