1/3 "Hilary and Jackie" (Three and 1/2 out of five stars, rated R) falls somewhere between "Shine" and "Jerry Springer." A true story about a musical prodigy cut down in her prime, the film spends an inordinate amount of time exploring dysfunctional family dynamics that produced titillating sexual antics.
For many years cellist Jacqueline du Pre was overshadowed by her older sister, Hilary, a sibling rivalry that according to filmmaker Anand Tucker never was resolved. But while Hilary's career stalled, Jackie went on to become one of the most famous cellists in the world. Then, at 28, she was found to have multiple sclerosis, which destroyed her career.
