Would you believe nightcrawlers in designer colors? Well, maybe not designer, but my angling companion, Doc Epping, the Coon Rapids veterinarian, showed up the other day with a dozen lime-green nightcrawlers.
"I bet you haven't seen these," Epping said, "and the walleyes haven't, either."
The nightcrawlers apparently lose their natural earth tones if fed special dyes, in this case, lime green. Epping bought them at a Longville bait shop.
I'm guessing the theory is a nightcrawler's effectiveness as a walleye bait might be enhanced with color as well as flavor, although I have no ...
