1/3 As the Gophers' new men's basketball coach, Dan Monson will earn at least $700,000 a year. This week, though, Monson has had a different pile of green on his mind.
For instance, when he walked into the Gophers basketball office Thursday morning, secretary Carolyn Allen had arranged several piles of light green notes, with names and phone numbers of people who called asking for Monson. The pile that towered over the others, the Pisa of Post-its, was the one of coaches inquiring about a job on Monson's staff.
Monson quickly flipped through the messages as if shuffling a deck of cards, then led two visitors into an adjoining room.
