1/3 Employees of a Golden Valley seed company learned Friday that an anonymous group called the Bolt Weevils is taking credit for destroying corn plots because of the group's opposition to genetic engineering.
Novartis Seeds Inc. notified the Goodhue County Sheriff's Department Wednesday morning that corn plants along Hwy. 19 had been damaged near Stanton, Minn.
"It appeared to be a prank or vandalism, like somebody had just gone in there and tried to make a mess. Corn plants were broken off, a substantial number of them," according to Tony Minnichsoffer, Novartis communications manager.
