1/3 The last time a large-school team went unbeaten in boys' hockey was in 1993, when Bloomington Jefferson rolled to a 28-0 record en route to the Tier I title. There was also one perfect team in each of the previous two decades, Hill-Murray was 28-0 in '83, Edina 24-0 in '74.
So, it's a rare feat.
But at the start of this season at least, Elk River, led by the incomparable Paul Martin, appears to be a step or two ahead of the best in Class AA.
The Elks were 24-4 and third in the state last season. Only a hot Hastings goalie kept Elk River out of the title game - the Elks lost 2-1 in two overtimes in the semifinals to the Raiders.
