Celebrex, the new arthritis pain medication, doesn't cure arthritis. Nor does it relieve pain more effectively than some drugs already available.
But in the hype surrounding the fast-selling drug's introduction in late January, that message hasn't gotten through, says Park Nicollet rheumatologist Dr. Eric Schned.
"I get patients coming in and asking for this new `miracle arthritis drug,' " he said. "And I have to tell them there there's no miracle."
Nevertheless, Schned and other doctors who specialize in treating arthritis aren't downplaying the significance of Celebrex and other similar drugs. Celebrex isn't a panacea, they say, but it may ...
