It's your typical feel-good state tournament success story: Head coach threatens player with physical harm, goalie's dad quits as assistant coach, parents of player sue school, school hires sports psychologist to work with team's communication, team goes to state tournament.
And that's the abridged version.
One thing that wasn't left out of that synopsis was what the Elk River players said about their soap opera-esque ride to the Class AA state tournament, because they didn't say anything. Their decision to ignore the turmoil is probably a big reason why the Elks are 22-3 and in the tournament for the first time since 1993.
