Ten years after the Exxon Valdez ran aground and spilled 11.2 million gallons of crude oil into Alaska's Prince William Sound, there's little agreement about the extent of the environmental damage and whether the ecosystem has returned to normal.
"We see Prince William Sound as having essentially recovered from the effects of the spill," said Frank Sprow, vice president of environment and safety for Exxon Corp., which owned the supertanker.
"Biological communities there are active, robust and thriving."
