Elmer L. Andersen promised not to cry when the University of Minnesota sent four moving trucks to his Arden Hills home Wednesday morning to pick up 12,500 precious books.
A few tears would have been understandable. The books represent a lifetime of collecting that began with 10-cent books bought in the Depression and continues today with books bought from dealers around the world.
Over the years, Andersen, the 89-year-old former governor and university regent, has been one of the most important donors to University Libraries' Special Collections and Rare Books. The Andersen Horticultural Library at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is named for him and ...
