Now South Dakota also wants Minnesota's more liberal federal wetland protection regulations.
It looks as if it will get them. If so, wildlife - and conservation - will be the loser.

For a long time, Minnesota and South Dakota have been governed by somewhat different federal wetland protection rules.
Minnesota's rules, as promulgated by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), generally are intended to govern fairly large, in some instances almost pondlike, wetlands.
