1/3 As a show of good faith, the Legislature in 1997 gave Metro Transit a $4.7 million funding bonus and a challenge: Complete 125 million passenger trips by today.
The organization passed its two-year test easily, registering its 125 millionth ride on May 24th.
"They gave us money and they gave us a challenge and we're going to significantly exceed the goal," said Bob Gibbons, director of customer services at Metro Transit, the primary bus system in the seven-county Twin Cities area. During the two-year funding period, Metro Transit provided more than 131 million passenger trips.
