Texas never struck me as a vacation destination. California has it all: Redwood forests, mountains, the Pacific Ocean. When friends spoke of the Texas Hill Country, my reaction was: what's so great about a bunch of hills?
That changed when I spent a long weekend there. The Hill Country is both gorgeous and vast _ a huge swath of rugged land in central Texas that stretches west of Austin and north of San Antonio for miles.
