San Francisco's famed Presidio has never been a typical national park. There are no Old Faithfuls spouting off on cue or Grand Canyons to peer into. The 1,480-acre former military base in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, and right alongside some of the country's most expensive real estate, is home to hundreds of historic buildings, including cavalry stables.
