HAIRY Fran Healy waved his first band goodbye because they gave a batch of his songs the chop.
He was told to stick to singing with pub band Medicine Hat - so he left to join Glass Onion, who later became million-sellers Travis.
Yesterday, Alan Phillips, who formed Medicine Hat with an 18-year-old Fran, recalled: "Fran's hair was like a Morrissey quiff. He had more hair then.
"I realised he was a good singer and that's how we got the band together. I was doing all the songwriting in the band.
