Many Americans have little idea what a complicated place New York State is. That is why the slugfest for a U.S. Senate seat between Democrat first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rick Lazio, a four-term Republican congressman from Long Island, should go a full 10 exciting rounds.
Sure, it may not generate the electricity expected from a match between Mrs. Clinton and New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, but it will not put anyone to sleep. Minutes after Mr. Giuliani announced his intention not to pull out of the race, Rick Lazio came out swinging. Despite the mayor's continuing personal drama, the cameras quickly followed the photogenic Lazio out of the room.
