The state attorney general's office is investigating whether a nursing center in Rochester, Minn., fraudulently received Medicaid payments while providing substandard and life-threatening care.
The investigation of the Aspen Care and Convalescent Center, formerly known as the Woodside Rehabilitation Center, is the first of its kind in Minnesota. It follows recent cases in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida and Iowa in which criminal and civil actions have been brought against nursing facilities that have received federal funds while neglecting patients that the money was intended to benefit.
