A St. Cloud-based boat builder is one of 21 independent boat manufacturers that recently won a $133.1 million antitrust suit against giant Brunswick Corp.
A U.S. District court jury in Little Rock, Ark., awarded the boat builders and their buying cooperative, Independent Boat Builders Inc., a total of $44.4 million, an amount that was trebled under federal antitrust laws to $133.1 million. Weeres Industries of St. Cloud was awarded about $18,000 in damages, trebled to about $54,000. Awards to other companies in the suit ranged from $16.6 million (trebled to $49.8 million) for Mariah Boats Inc. of Benton, Ill., to about $6,000 (trebled to $18,000) for Play Time ...
