With that as its theme, the 59th Minneapolis Aquatennial commences at 9 a.m. today with the sailing regatta - the festival's oldest event - and continues with 38 events (most of them free) through July 26.
Things shift into high gear tonight with a giant party on Hennepin Avenue. The downtown thoroughfare will be closed to traffic from 6 to 10 p.m., when as many as 100,000 people are expected to frolic and consume beer, brats and all sorts of carnival-type victuals.
