About two weeks after Royal Zeno's airport shoeshine shop appeared destined for oblivion, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) reversed its course. The board voted unanimously Monday to give the 80-year-old St. Paul man virtually everything he wanted.
The commission also voted 10-5 to appoint an outside committee to reexamine its bidding procedures, which almost led to the demise of Zeno's business, 36 years after he began shining shoes at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Zeno has run the shop for the past 28 years.
