In her 32 years of teaching deaf children, Ruth M. Tiedeman wasn't content to deliver her lessons only in the classroom. She often supplemented her students' in-school education with visits to her family's lake home and other excursions.
She thought it was necessary to fill hearing-impaired children's education with a variety of real-life experiences, said her daughter Elaine Weisz of St. Paul.
Tiedeman, of St. Paul, who taught at the former Jefferson School in St. Paul until her retirement in 1971, died Sunday at Regions Hospital after suffering a heart attack and a stroke. She was 87.
