Minnesota's three would-be governors ventured into fresh territory - merit pay for teachers, drug legalization and gay rights - in their second televised debate in as many days, a spirited 90-minute tussle on KTCA-TV's "Almanac" program Friday night.
Despite opposition by the state teachers union to state-imposed merit pay schemes, DFL candidate Hubert Humphrey III said, under pressure from Republican nominee Norm Coleman, that "merit pay is fine, it's a good idea, there's nothing wrong with that."
