Move over, Stillwater bridge. There's another border issue facing Minnesota and Wisconsin decisionmakers during the next few months that also reflects how growing populations on both sides of the St. Croix River are pushing the limits of infrastructure.
Public hearings will begin this week on a proposed $46 million high-voltage power line that would cross the river at one of three locations in the vicinity of Taylors Falls, Minn., and St. Croix Falls, Wis. Northern States Power Co. and Dairyland Power Cooperative have applied for permission to build a 230-kilovolt line.
