I don't idolize many celebrities. There are only a few for whom I'll upend my schedule to catch a TV appearance, or buy an unfamiliar magazine that trumpets an interview with them.
Figure-skater Katarina Witt captivated me more than a dozen years ago. After she won the Olympic gold medal for East Germany in 1984, she cut an unconventional creative swath through her sport.
Until now.
Naked as an icicle, Witt can be seen in the December issue of Playboy. What a letdown! Not because of the usual arguments about exploitation, objectification and prurient interests, but because doing a Playboy pictorial is such an unoriginal publicity stunt.
