1/3 Dan Van House was a rock on the ice; a big, physical defenseman who played like a 6-foot-1, 200-pound freight train. Run into him, said his hockey coach at the University of St. Thomas, and he'd flatten you.

He was also a great student, a loyal friend and a team leader. His girlfriend, for goodness sake, was homecoming queen at their high school.

"I can't say enough superlatives about the kid," St. Thomas coach Terry Skrypek said.
