Your cough is getting worse. Your eyes are watering. Your muscles ache.
What do you do?
Take your temperature.
If it's below 102 degrees, you probably have caught one of more than 200 viruses that cause the common cold, especially if it all started with a runny nose, sneezing and maybe a sore throat followed by a hacking cough.
But:
- If your fever, chills headache and fatigue came on suddenly and your temperature is hovering above 101 degrees, you probably have the flu.
- If your cold or flu symptoms don't dissipate within a few days to a week and quickly worsen, you may have pneumonia.
