Two days. Most of the class had made it two days.
Not easy. Dizzy, sleeping poorly, crabby, whiney, talking in stops and starts. Sucking on toothpicks, straws, pencils, fake cigarettes. Slugging coffee and pop and water. Trying to remember to breathe deeply. Chewing gum, gobbling Starburst candies, stuffing in meals (even breakfast) and junk food. Trying nicotine patches and the new pills. Waking up thinking about cigarettes. Resenting people who had never had to break an addiction. But they made it. They made it!
Twelve of the 16 people did without a smoke from the beginning of their smoking-cessation class at 7 p.m. last Tuesday to the start of class ...
