I was going to bring this up - really! - but Fred Mackaman got there first:
- Almost every name-brand product has on its label a toll-free phone number for comments and questions. I think the Butterball turkey people started this trend with a modestly useful hot line that novice turkey roasters could access on Thanksgiving Day. But what question or comment could one possibly have about, say, breakfast cereal? Or shaving cream, toothpaste, canned vegetables, Spam, or dishwashing detergent? (OK, maybe the SpamLine IS abuzz with queries.) Imagine the job satisfaction and stress level of the person who has to take the calls.
