Ramsey County officials think they can keep some of the county's neediest people from falling through the cracks by taking control of publicly funded health care.
The County Board is scheduled to vote today on whether it will directly buy health care for the 45,000 people who receive Medical Assistance and General Assistance in the county.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services paid eight health maintenance organizations (HMOs) $466 million last year to deliver health care to Medical Assistance and General Assistance recipients in 27 counties.
